Cannock Wood wins Best Village Competition

Following on from it’s success in the Staffordshire Best Kept Village competition Cannock Wood has now been designated Calor Village of the Year for Staffordshire. At a meeting of the Staffordshire Community Council at Gnosall on September 24th representatives from Cannock Wood were presented with a cheque for £250 and a souvenir metal plaque. Judges decided that Cannock Wood was worthy of representing Staffordshire in the National Final of the competition which is being contested by 40 other villages from around England. The judges looked for community involvement and a vibrant personality to the village. They were impressed by the many organisations and clubs which are part of the life of Cannock Wood. The next stage of the competition takes place aon various dates around the country and Cannock Wood will be visited on Friday 9th October when various organisations will be invited to take part in a further presentation of life in our village.

Community Speedwatch Scheme

Following much discussion about road safety in the village of Cannock Wood and further to requests from concerned villagers the Parish Council have organised a presentation on the possibility of running a Community Speedwatch Scheme in the village. This will give us information regarding setting up the scheme, running it and any training costs involved. If anyone is interested the meeting starts at 7.15pm on Thursday 17th September. As usual members of the public are welcome to attend and participate in the open session before the official council meeting and a re also welcome to stay for the rest of the meeting but will not be able to participate in the official business which follows.
